A Note From Tony
Shabbat Shalom Everyone!
Have you noticed apparent contradictions in the Bible? Sure you have! How about the apparent contradiction pertaining to whether or not the Torah/Law was done away with or not. On the one hand, Paul seemed to say that the Torah/Law had ended. Here are the “big 3” proof texts people usually mention to support such a notion:
Romans 6:14 – For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
Romans 7:4 – Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ . . .
Romans 7:6 – But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.
However, Paul also said this . . .
Romans 2:13 - for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified;
Seems to be contradictory, ehh? On the one hand Paul said we’re no longer under the law. On the other hand, he said only the doers of the law will be justified. Seems contradictory doesn’t it? Well, in fact it is! In one place Paul is saying one thing that’s the opposite of what he’s saying in another place. So what’s the solution? Before I suggest a solution, note what Yeshua stated about Torah/Law obedience.
Matthew 5:17-20 - “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
Now it seems that Yeshua has contradicted Romans 6:14, 7:4 and 7:6 also! May I suggest that what Paul said in Romans 2:13 is true AND what he said in Romans 6:14, 7:4 and 7:6 are true also. In order to see that Paul in NOT CONTRADICTING himself you will have to examine the context of his statements.
I have posted a series of videos that take a deep dive into what Paul meant when he said “we are not under the law.” If you have embraced your Hebraic/Jewish roots and have been confused about this topic, may I suggest you listen to Our True Freedom from the Torah, from Restoration of Torah Ministries!
